Auto Accident Treatment in Maple Grove

In an automobile accident, there’s sure to be trauma to the body, even if traveling at a slow speed. In most cases, there’s a whiplash injury. The sudden stop in forward motion causes unavoidable stress to the neck, back and spine. Concussions are also possible.

Symptoms don’t always show up at first; it can take six months or more to present. By that time, it’s very difficult to tie your symptoms to the accident, and your claim may be denied. That’s just one reason to have X-rays and an examination done as soon as possible.

Having an adjustment after your X-rays can prevent more serious problems when pain hits later. Chiropractic care can keep family members from having issues that last a lifetime. Pressure on nerves can increase over time causing a loss of function in various areas of the body.

Chiropractic care after the accident is focused on wellness, but we realize patients may need additional therapies. Physical therapy, massage and other modalities may be necessary to address muscle issues.

What Is Whiplash?

Whiplash is the most common injury sustained in auto accidents. When your vehicle stops suddenly, your body still moves forward. Seatbelts, steering wheels and other parts of the car stop that motion. Meanwhile, your head stays in place momentarily before snapping forward.

That rapid motion affects the muscles and ligaments around the bones involved. When stretched and quickly released, the ligaments are strained and muscles have to work harder to hold everything in place. Muscle spasms are often the result.

Recovery times vary depending on the severity of the injury and how soon it’s treated. The longer care is delayed, the more likely fibrous tissue and adhesions will have to be broken down before healing can start.
